Everything You Need to Know About Windshield Wiper Blades
Just about everything you can think of hits your windshield while you drive. If rain and snow aren't already pelting it, dirt and insects will. Too much of that crud piles up, and it'll get tougher to see the road. The best way to clear it all away before it becomes a problem: install a good set of factory wiper blades.
What They are and What They Do
They're the long rubber attachments snapped onto the end of each wiper arm. Pair a set with a Honda windshield washer system, and as they pivot, they'll sweep away melted ice more easily. Adjust between intermittent and continuous speeds and doing that job gets even easier.
How Many and What Kinds There are
There are three, for most Honda vehicles: conventional, beam, and hybrid. Each has one of three types of connectors, too -- either hook, clamp, or pin.
These wiper blades, you see on the road every day. They're the commonest, those you replace biannually. They're made of rubber or silicone, they attach to metal frames, and they provide fair durability in relatively mild weather and temperate climates.
These are made of solid rubber. This means they generally last longer than the conventional kind. They're also designed to conform much more closely to a windshield's contours.
These blades work like beam wipers, except that, in contrast, the metal frames of the blades are rubber-coated. This makes them more versatile. It also makes them better able to resist the weather's effects.
You'll have to change any of these sooner or later, though, as no wiper blade lasts forever.
The Signs it's Time to Replace Them
- Cracking rubber
- Streaking as the wipers run
- Squeaking and chattering sounds
- Failing blade adhesive
- Broken frames
Look for these symptoms with your front and, if you have them, your rear wiper blades, too. When it's time to buy new ones, be sure you get the genuine article.
